On the component level, the implementation of the DC distribution faces two major challenges. Achieving flexible power flow control and protection. Most research is dedicated to designing DC-DC converters that are rated to process the full power of the distribution grid, even during the fault. In order to propose a more sustainable approach, we propose partially rated devices for power flow control and fully rated devices for protection. These devices are designed using modular concepts in order to increase their usability in different networks and reduce their carbon footprint.
